As many might have noticed, V1x is running with a draft league idea originally presented originally by Wippuh. It much along the lines of reviving the PUG of yesteryear. Head over to PlanetRtCW for more information and to sign up for the draft. It's not a TeamWarfare event, but we'd really like to see it succeed so we can consider our options later to incorporate it.
On another note, your TeamWarfare RtCW staff is also considering some other tournaments for the community. Expect something Shrub. We're gon'na let OSPers focus on draft league for a few weeks.
I'd like to offer for discussion the idea of trying a Degeneration mod tournament. It's a different approach to competitive game play, and one unexplored by any organized tournament provider. I've sent Tunnelram some email, asking if he'd like to have some input and help us get things working straight on any servers that might be involved.

I guess I'll have to download the mode for the fifth time and try it again. Looks like good time to try something different.

Since the [N4L] Shrub Pub Rotation server is not being used much I might slap degeneration on there if I can figure it out. I remember playing Degeneration and it was very fun and had some nice maps. DynoSauR

I just downloaded Degeneration 1.1 to my own computer and now I'll have to figure out how to get the necessary files on my Shrub server and figure out how to start it up. I had hoped that I would have seen an easy step by step faq at the Degeneration website on how to set up a Degeneration server but, I looked around and didn't see any such tutorial. I must be blind or something. DynoSauR

We're also looking to put Degeneration on one of the TWL servers. Let's compare notes, and let's not be shy in asking Tunnleram for some help and suggestions.
I've been looking over the mod's server-side cvars; I'd like some input on what everyone might like to see. Lots of options.

wolfplayers aint ready for degeneration mod. the mods been around for over a year and ppl still have there head up there bizutts. Thats to bad. Degen mod is a frag fest mod with stats that are much better than any mod iv seen for wolfenstein. Iv tried to get ppl together for this mod but was a failier. Poor Tunnleram worked so hard for wolfplayers but ppl are so blind now-a-days. I really hope to see more than 0 teams on the ladder in the future before TWL closes it. Ill see what i can do. thx gromit, i just got your PM today and knew nothing of this tourney.

esh@m, this tournament option isn't dead. I just sent Tunnelram a note today about it. You're right, btw: it is a damned fine mod and worthy for competition. Atm, however, there are some big things brewing -- probably what got you here today -- that stuff needs to come first. Hopefully, with some returning members to community, we might have some success with this tournament very soon.

great additude spiza I dont think its the maps, its the person playing the map.
hahah, you cant compare wild west to degen mod, same engine but 2 differant ideas/themes. you cant call peoples hard work "sucks" thats just not right.
I know one thing, we'll have a team ready to go, win or loose, all fun and games, cant wait. Post edited by esh@m at 4/28/2006 7:19:34 PM

I played the mod quite a bit when it was released. If you look at the thank you of players that tested, you will see several nox players on that list. There were also a lot of guys from Mx on there that I played with before join nox. I wasn't able to test, but when it was launched, I played it. And I also played it when it was relaunched.
The generator maps are stupid. You have an eng that just sits at the generator the whole match. And then there is just twice as much running to get to the parts and run back. That crap is boring.
The death match stuff was fun. Its fun for about 30min of warming up or so, and if it was included in regular wolf and not a huge download, I'm sure it would have been more popular.
Now what I did like was the few maps that were just assault maps but they did not include a generator. There were only a few of these maps however. There was one map that added fixing a device (radar?) that changed things up a bit. But I'm pretty sure it didn't include parts either. These maps also included falling ammo/health/nade packs which is similar to the ammo dumps in ET and was fun. You could parachute in which was interesting.
But in the end, there were too few of these maps. The initial push of degen was the generator idea. It was a poor one, and most people that have played the mod would agree. When the second version of the mod was released, people did not give it a good enough shot (wolf almost dead at that point...) because they didn't like the first version that was only deathmatch and generator maps. If they had concentrated on making all the new maps without using generators, they may have had something.

The wild west comment was in relation to the limited # of maps available for each mod.

I'm looking for a team to jump onto. I can't seem to get enough interest in my clan for a team. I don't think many of them have played Degen. either. I really liked the concept overall, and it's a nice change of pace for rtcw. If anyone needs a player just contact me through twl or my clan site tao-gamers.com I might be able to get a couple of clan mates willing to join a team as well. Don't hold your breath on the added tao players though. It's a very slim might. I'll try to get more interest in tao.

Tunnel, can you use any map with the mod? Maybe I'll install it right now and find out. With all the server crashes in OSP, if you could play any map, then it would probably be popular.

create directory. add directory name to start up script.
You might need to learn some new cvars, but if you wanna play server admin, you should devote some time to learning these things.
There is an old saying in Unix circles, RTFM which means "Read the F*cking Manual."

Hey Tunnelram,
Sorry, been busy, but if you need a player I'm up for jumping on. If I have to be tested that's cool. Just contact me whenever, or send me some info. You can pm me on TAO forums if need be, or in B.E. as well.
