http://www.bbspot.com/News/2006/11/home-theater-regulations.html

The MPAA defines a home theater as any home with a television larger than 29" with stereo sound and at least two comfortable chairs, couch, or futon. Anyone with a home theater would need to pay a $50 registration fee with the MPAA or face fines up to $500,000 per movie shown.

I think this is getting a little out of hand, it is basically saying that the majority of people that have fairly large TVs need to pay this "fee" in order to watch movies, what a crock of shit.

And yet they wonder why piracy exists. The consumer has been getting fucked long enough, and this is an example.

That is a funny article. Even though it is fake, I would not be surprised if it came true.

I hate the MPAA.

I already have to pay $9 now for a damn movie ticket, and I've been paying $19.99- $29.99 for movies for six years now.

What more do those bastards want!??!

Be smart when you buy movies Zeus, I get some great deals from Amazon and Best Buy, you just have to look for them.

I just got a Special Edition version of Apocalypse Now with the 1979 and 2001 versions with about 4 hours of special features I'll never look at for $8.

I'm so used to just driving and physically picking up movies at Target/Best Buy that I've never even checked Amazon.com before.

If it will save me some $$$ then I 'll look into it.

True. I took it as that because what we're talking about is in reference to stones comment, which is clearly about pirating movies.

the term 'home theater' is just a marketing gimmick to sell TVs and surround sound, i thought.

come on. if any of you had lots of money and wouldn't miss a few thousand dollars spent on DVDs, you'd buy them, not download them. people who can afford it, don't waste time on illegal downloading. its a hassle, takes alot of time versus buying a brand new copy at the store, you're not guaranteed the file will work, nor are you guaranteed the file isn't infected with a virus, nor are you guaranteed the file isn't marked by the authorities. if you had the money, you wouldn't waste your time with the risk.

If you are running into those issues then you are downloading from the wrong place. I do agree though that if most people had the money they would buy movies. However the main motivation of the MPAA is greed and that makes most people want to pirate movies even more.

When i talk about downloading i am only talking about for personal use though. People who download movies then sell them certainly deserve to be punished.
