Just to sum it up, this bitch lawyer defends child abusers and is pissed that DMV took her license plates away from her because they said "H8DCYF". ______________________________________________________________

Its crummy that a thinking person would want that as a licensce plate.
What is kind of disturbing though is the obvious strongarming and cover up that is being practiced by a govermental agency.
If they are within their pervue to ask for these plates back, then why not do it properly rather than look like they are nazis.
I think its safe to say we all hate child molestors, but I think its also safe to say we want to make sure they are in fact guilty of the charges they are facing. Somebody has to do it, I would bet this lawyer probably detests a lot of her clientele unless she is completely insane.

Hate Department of Children, Youth and Families. If you neglect or abuse your kids, they're the ones that take them away.
By the way, her tags weren't actually "Stolen" as she put it. She words it as "Armed thugs came and stole my license plates" when in fact the police showed up to physically remove the plates after she had been asked nicely to turn them in.
She was made perfectly aware of the issue- there were complaints from DCYF about the tags, and they constitute a hate against the people of the organization.

You'd think so. A joke as a lawyer, imo. It's one thing to represent child abusers, because everyone is entitled to defense, but to actually SIDE with them is a whole new story.

"I specifically requested this plate. I am a Libertarian civil rights lawyer, whose main area of practice is the defense of child abuse cases, and the plate perfectly expresses my sentiments toward the Division for Children, Youth, and Families, who violate my clients' rights on a daily basis."

There was a bartender chick at this bar I used to loaf at that drove a red 1998 Corvette convertible with a vanity plate that read WHORE. I shit you not. Don't know who she had to service to get that plate approved....maybe it was the same guy that bought her the car.
I have not idea what would possess her to get that plate, but when asked she would say that she wanted something memorable. Not that a beautiful, stacked blonde in a convertible Vette isn't memorable, but whatever.

I would like to start by saying that if this lawyer actually defended child abusers, then I could sympathize with many of these comments. However, this is not the case. Paula doesn’t defend child abusers; she defends people who have been *falsely accused*. In her own words she has “never defended someone who she thought was actually an abusive parent unless she thought they had cleaned up their act (which has only happened once). Basically, this thread is a very good example of people making fools of themselves by pretending to know everything about a topic they have never even heard of.
My personal favorite quote was from PoPnYaH, who said “she actually made a quilt which *implies* that vanity plates are covered by free speech.” Where the hell did the “imply” come from? The constitution DOES cover license plates, and if you don’t believe me do a google search for the constitution and look at the first amendment. While your there, feel free to read the rest of the constitution. Considering it is the groundwork for all of the laws this country has, it is the kind of thing that could be really useful knowing, and judging from your comments you haven’t got a clue of what is in there. If you can’t figure out how to interpret the constitution for this particular situation, the court ruling of “Wooley v. Maynard” has already done it for you.
According to Zombee, Paula was “made perfectly aware of the issue” before the “armed thugs” took the plates away. This is perfectly true. What Paula was NOT made aware of was what law she broke. Even now, almost 6 years later, no one has told her what charges they were going to press against her, or who made the complaints about the plates. She asked them nicely (at first) what law she had broken, but the DMV dodged the question repeatedly (at which point she moved on to the not-so-nice asking). It is quite simple, really. The DMV started off nice, and so did she. When the DMV stopped being nice, she followed suit.
Also, I hate to break this to you ~~Snake~~, but it would be very hard for her to walk in front of a bus. She lives in freaking New Hampshire, and buses are difficult to come by here.
One thing that was absolutely correct on this message board is that the website is laid out HORRIBLY. I mean, Jesus Christ, I just spent 15 minutes trying to find my way around it and I still didn’t get what I was looking for. I have to give props to BuRN! for that comment. I also have to say that the vanity plate he saw in mass. has been duplicated in New Hampshire. There is a convertible I saw parked outside a CHURCH that said “go topless,” but as far as I know that person hasn’t had any problems with the law.
The only person on this whole board who even stopped to consider both sides of the topic was PROFHET, who said “I think it’s safe to say we all hate child molesters, but I think its also safe to say we want to make sure they are in fact guilty of the charges they are facing. Somebody has to do it, I would bet this lawyer probably detests a lot of her clientele unless she is completely insane.” All in all, this is a very intelligent comment, which I was rather surprised to find among all the garbage that has found it’s way into this thread. As I mentioned earlier, however, Paula has never taken a case with anyone she actually thought abused their child. She has even reported several cases of child abuse to DCYF. That’s right, she has tipped off the enemy several times to help children that were in need of care.
So, now that I have gone through this board person by person and refuted every argument anyone has posted, I believe it is time to #1: explain who I am and why I know so much on this topic and #2: add insult to injury in the process. My name is Hannah Werme, and I am Paula’s 15 year old daughter. I was only nine when her plates were taken, but I can remember many of the chapters in this bizarre saga as they happened. One time I went with her to the DMV while she spent 2 hours trying to get the people to tell her what law she broke, and we were quite literally sent back and forth between two departments that each said the other had the information she wanted. I can tell you that she GENUINELY cares about her clients and the children that have been taken from them. I have seen her after she loses a case, and let me tell you it hits her HARD and she is basically sent into depression for a few weeks each time she has to watch a child be permanently severed from their family. Believe me, it is SCARY being in a car with her driving during this time. My life has flashed before my eyes more than once. One of my best friends is also a foster child. Unlike the cases my mom takes, my friend has GOOD REASON to be in the foster care system, and as soon as my mom learned about her past the first words out of her mouth were “thank god she got away from them!”
Now, since I am Paula’s daughter it is pretty much a guaranteed fact that everyone is thinking “she is such a momma’s girl, she probably never disagrees with her mother on anything.” NOT THE CASE! I have issues with her just like every other teenager does, and her tendency to go on a crusade against anyone who does something unconstitutional or irresponsible has backfired on me more than once. I am pretty sure the guidance counselors at my school will remember “that crazy lawyer” for many years to come after all the trouble she insisted on putting them through. I also decided many years ago that it will be my DAD who takes me to the DMV to get my drivers license, because there is no way in hell I am stupid enough to expect my mom to be able to walk into that building without causing problems. You should have seen her when we went to get a non-driver’s ID for me and they asked for my social security number. To this day I pity the guy who had the misfortune of working the counter at that particular time.
Finally, I would like to mention a few things about the contact info that was posted by Zombee. I really have no way to justify the way she treats people who call during dinner. It is difficult for people to gage when someone else eats dinner, so it’s not like it is something that would be done intentionally. Not to mention she once bitched my friend out so much for calling during dinner it took me a few years to convince him that he would not be murdered on the spot for using the phone. However, her policy on people calling after she goes to bed is perfectly logical. You would never believe how many people like to call her for business at 11:45 at night. I have been woken up far too many times by that god awful phone on school nights for me to think that her refusing to accept calls that late is a reason to think her an undedicated attorney. It means she is a lawyer that is being considerate of #1: me and my father, who happen to like sleep just as much as the next person, and #2: everyone who comes in contact with her in daily life, because bad things tend to happen when she doesn’t get much sleep.
So basically, you have all been mercilessly proven wrong by a 15-year-old. Next time, I recommend you all do your research before acting like you know everything. THE LINK WAS RIGHT THERE, all you had to do was click on it and you would have been able to learn all of the details, and I wouldn’t have had to spend two hours writing this to correct you all. Have a nice, uninformed life.
