so, ok, I decided to create this thread, because this Hurricane Dennis has just now been confirmed at

140 mph SUSTAINED winds. it will slam pensacola, panama city sometime tomorrow afternoon/night.

this thing is HUGE now, it will be THE STORY for days to come. It is aweful!!

and here is the salt on wounds: it will get jammed in between 2 huge "systems" (a high pressure center coming from the west and the edge of a high pressure ridge on the east). this will drench Tennesse with loads of water.

basically, the whole south is properly fucked for the next week.

Way to lower the bar to where Obama can totally fuck things over and you don't have to feel bad about how you voted. I guess Denial is the first step on the path to acceptance.

Luckily after Ivan everyone has learned their lessons and left early. I went to pick up generators in Atlanta on Friday. I65 was a parking lot. Luckily for me I know tons of backroads so I avoided most of it. When I came back I was chekcing on supplies for people. Things where sold out as far north as Atlanta.

We had gas stations with no gas as early as Thursday night. The price of gas has already increased 20 cents here. Last night, no gas in the city. YOu have to drive 30 minutes to the interstate to find any.

Right now its going in about 100 miles West of me on its current projection. That is the same place Ivan hit 10 months ago. We will likely still get pounded since we are on the East side of the storm.

Now for my funny story.

Thursday when I came home from work I boarded up my windows. My wife had been told she'd be working Saturday to secure their rental units and I had purcahsed two generators in Atlanta that a teammate picked up for me so I'd be heading to his house to get them. My neighbors all kind of snickered at me because I was doing this on Thursday. Well Friday when I got home from work before heading to Atlanta, they where all boarding their windows

bigger than you think, I live in Montgomery, Al I've been through several hurricanes and even inland rivers do have a "surge" the wind literally piles the water on top of it's self, if it's still cat. 1 hurricane, you'll see how mighty the Mississippi can be.

Peace to all you TWLers I'll prolly be outta power for a few.

Florida Residents Tortured in Storm Shelter

Florida residents who flocked to Pensacola area storm shelters to escape hurricane Dennis were treated to physical and mental torture, Tempus Fugit has learned. The conditions endured by shelter patrons closely mirrored the torture that has been occurring at the U.S. military prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. In addition, the food served at the storm shelter was not tailored for each person’s ethnic and religious requirements, a perk that even the Guantanamo Bay torture facilities manage to provide. One elderly man died in a Florida storm shelter. Guantanamo Bay has had no such fatalities.

According to the New York Times, patrons of the storm shelter were forced to sleep on concrete floors and were subjected to frigid temperatures brought on by air conditioning units that were set intentionally low.

Well here's an update, thankfully Dennis was a compact huricane (not very large in actual size) and due to it's westward track we were very lucky here in the Montgomery area. I kept power the entire time and only lost cable for about 10 min (i was w/out power for 4 days after Ivan w/ a father who has madical problems and needed power)

My thoughts are w/ the peeps in Fl. if you haven't been through one of these things it's hard to understand how rough it can be and the Fl. peeps ,between last years season and this one so far, are carrying an unprecedented load.

Just got power back for the 3rd time 15 minutes ago. Still no cable. I do know why I despise 56K so much Anyway, we made it through in good shape. Damn thing went in 30 miles from where I live. We got very lucky it was a fast mover since it was in and out quickly. There is still areas across this city with no power, but they are bringing us up pretty quickly. The bonus is that everyone still had Ivan fresh on their minds so there was alot of common sense by everyone.

Storm surge did the beaches in. There are entire condo's that are just gone. There is one section of the beach here hat used to be a big dune and a hill and it was about 20 yards from the road. Right now that area has 5 feet of area from the road and its a 20' drop to the beach. I heard of another set of condos that are now their own island. The beach around them is washed away including the driveways to the road.
