Next season are we going to be able to expect any kind of seeding based on performances of this season? The reason I ask is look at a team like XLR8, they've had an absolutely brutal schedule but are a good squad and are 0-5. Then I look at our schedule and it's been pretty light (except for ATF ... bastards) and here we are 3-1. Who knows maybe XLR8 has to play Legacy and SEYE and B2 for their final 3 matches and go 0-8 for the season even though they're definitely a quality squad and from what I've seen, deserve to get into the playoffs ... while maybe my team really isn't that good and we go 7-1 because we get easy matches and we skate into the playoffs. I realize seeding of any kind is impossible for the first season, I guess I was just asking about next season if we could expect any such thing.
Either that or relative points based on the points of the teams you play. So while XLR8 may continue to lose, their points may go up as those they lost to continue to win? Yeah it's complicated I know, but I'm just looking for fair. Post edited by Corrosion[CA] at 4/2/2008 10:11:59 AM

Things are fair actually. At the start of the season, especially season 1, any team can be good. As the season plays out, only then does a good team show itself. Unfortunately, some teams end up with an easier schedule and others not so easy. This could not be avoided for the first season.
As to your question, all I can say for now it depends. If the majority of teams that join season 2 end up being teams who did not play season one, how can you fairly rank them without prior knowledge? You really can't. You can guess, based on if they played in any other leagues, figuring out the strength of their opponents, but that is the best you can do, and a somewhat big task because every league scores differently. Now if most of the teams who play season 2 also played season 1, then yes, we can fairly rank teams based on the previous season. If this is the case for season two, then yes, I would rank teams based upon the previous season. If teams that play were consistent, never forfeit, always joined at the start of the league, etc., it would eliminate a lot of questions. But, that isn't the case unfortunately.
As for relative points, people do get points when they lose. Obviously they wont get as much as someone who wins, but they get points. Case in point, your teams is 3-1, XLR8 is 0-5. XLR8 has played since week 1, the Hitchhikers haven't. Right now, XLR8 has slightly less points, but a win and a loss by Hitchhikers will put XLR8 ahead. Unfortunately, losing every match does not help your point standing, regardless of which point system someone uses. 3 out of 5 matches they have played they only lost by 1 or 2 points. They could have very easily had a different record. So despite who they played, their matches have been pretty evenly skilled.

By the way, there will be some minor changes for season 2, but I will not begin to address those until the conclusion of season 1. Teams will have their input that can influence which changes will be made.

Yeah I am not trying to be critical of season one. I actually like the scoring system and acknowledge that its not possible to rank people for season 1 or even season 2 if you have large turnover. I also acknowledge any relative scoring system would be a massive bear to maintain and without it being automated in some fashion would be largely untenable. I guess I was just illuminating the fact that some teams are getting screwed and others are getting a semi-free ride. Of course the playoffs sort it all out as then the best team truly wins, but as long as there's a reasonable chance for deserving clans to make the playoffs its all good.

Teams that have forfeit wins, really need to do some makeup matches. There are a couple teams that have have matches not played and a forfeit win. This will knock teams down the rankings pretty far, even if their win/loss record looks good. I suggest teams get these completed because it will help your standings greatly.
