Gamesurge was an ok alternative after gamesnet but, with these recent and not so recent netsplits it's becoming almost unusable as an IRC network. Some of my team mates have been researching some of the other IRC networks out there and http://irc.enterthegame.com http://www.enterthegame.com and http://irc.gameradius.org http://www.gameradius.com/ have been mentioned. I have read at the http://www.gamesurge.net website that they are still under DOS attacks and this has been going on for over a week now constantly. I don't know what to say really other than the remainder of us RTCW peeps need some IRC network that is stable. Enterthegame has been going for 6 years and seems to be pretty stable and already has quite a few familiar channels by some of the RTCW supporters such as #speakeasy, #gamecloud, #tsn, #teamwarfare, #sta, #own-age, #osp, #planetwolfenstein, and #n4l and quite a few other channels that should be familiar to the RTCW faithful. You also don't have to register with chanserv. When someone ops you that's it. You are op'd end of story. Just leave channel and return and you will always have ops in that channel. If someone has an alternative choice I'd like to hear it and if we could possibly run a poll or something to get everyone's input on this I'd be all for it. I'd also suggest for everyone to get the Xfire messenger program from http://www.xfire.com and give it a try. My alias is dynosaur of course so feel free to add me. I run all the other messenger programs through trillian but, Xfire is the only messenger program I let start up with my computer. So let's get some brainstorming going on about the irc situation and come up with a well thought out solution. Thanks much. DynoSauR

Well, we all moved from ETG to Gamesnet about two years ago because ETG was getting ddos'ed at the time. Very similar situtation if I remember right.

We all used to be at Gamesnet as far back as I can remember. If the RTCW community had been at ETG before that I wasn't around but, ever since I've been playing competitively it's either been Gamesnet or Gamesurge. I don't really care where we go we just need to decide which irc network to go to and make it happen.

Gamesurge = Gamesnet, same servers, they changed the name b/c of a lawsuit around the time that they merged with ppng.
Before Gamesnet/surge, we were on ETG - I think we changed around the time of CAL Season 6/7.
Before ETG people were everywhere, mostly quakenet but there was too many smelly euro's on that network. ;o
Anyways, if you want to know what's going on with Gamesurge, they've been under some heavy DDOS attacks for the last couple weeks.
To connect to gamesurge put /server 66.90.118.179 in your IRC console, should connect.
If the above ip doesnt connect, try any of the dozen or so listed here: http://www.gamesurge.net/servers/

Yup ETG was where most everyone hung out till the same thing happened over there; I remember. And who's to say if ETG is really more stable? Also, you might consider that it is fairly difficult to get the whole of everyone moved to a new network considering the fragmented state of the community.

#[N4L] and sometimes you have to put it in as #[N4L]] because of the brackets but, we've got a channel on Quakenet and got twice as many idlers there as Gamesurge. Gamesurge is still having netsplits fairly often.

Come to Quakenet the water is fine. Lots of previous RTCW peeps around and quite a few familiar channels. #[N4L] #commission #team-bye #team_affliction #tribalvalor Go to quakenet.org if you have any questions about how their stuff works. Gaysurge is down again.

We will be maintaining our Gamesurge presence. I don't forsee giving that up. I will not be forced off a network because of a bunch of script-kiddie 'tards. In the meantime, you can find me on Quakenet. As soon as I get it all figured out, I'll have #twl_rtcw registered there. As soon as these kiddies get bored with their DDoS idiocy, I'll be on Gamesurge as well.
Just in passing, I'm still amazed a group of idiots would attack an IRC network. The pure uselessness of the attacks leaves me wondering about the brainpower that is apparently lacking in these youngsters. I use the term youngsters as I can't imagine anyone with any real maturity doing this. Regardless of the age of the individuals involved in the attacks, they have the apparent maturity of spoiled children. The usual way to deal with spoiled children is to leave them alone. Let them scream and whine and eventually they'll get over it. For now, they probably need their collective diaper changed.
